The position is part of an exciting research project on advanced numerical modeling and simulation, with a specific focus on sensitivity analysis and optimization for fluid dynamics, solid mechanics, and fluid-structure interaction (FSI) using lattice Boltzmann methods (LBM). This role provides the opportunity to pursue a doctorate (PhD degree).

Your Tasks

  • Development & implementation of efficient and scalable LBM algorithms for complex multi-physics problems, specifically in OpenLB
  • Development & application of adjoint-based and data-driven optimization methods
  • High-performance computing (HPC) on modern GPU-accelerated architectures
  • Scientific collaboration with internal and external partners
  • Participation in teaching and supervision of students
  • Publication of results at international conferences and in peer-reviewed journals

Your Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in applied mathematics, scientific computing, or a related field
  • Strong background in optimization, numerical methods and scientific computing
  • Experience in fluid dynamics, solid mechanics, FSI or LBM is highly advantageous
  • Programming skills in C/C++ or similar; experience with parallel computing is a plus
  • Curiosity, creativity, and a collaborative mindset
  • Very good written and spoken English skills
  • basic German skills

Our Offer

  • Become a member of staff of the only German University of Excellence that conducts largescale research on the national level.
  • Work under excellent working conditions in an international environment and be active in research and academic education for our future.
  • Benefit from specific training when starting your job and from a wide range of further qualification offers.
  • Use our flexible working time models (flexitime, work from home), our sports and leisure offers, as well as our child and holiday care services.
  • We also pay a share of EUR 25/month in the Job Ticket Baden-Württemberg.
