Janssen R&D is part of Johnson & Johnson, one of the largest healthcare companies in the world. We are passionate about patients and our aim is to transform the future of health! With the ongoing digital transformation of healthcare it is essential to introduce circular ways of working for digital health products, from design to end-of-life. This is the only way to minimise the negative environmental impact from electronic waste! Janssen started, and is now leading the EU-funded Digital Health in the Circular Economy project (DiCE; https://circulardigitalhealth.eu/) to work on this problem. DiCE is a 4-year program that will complete in September 2026. We are currently looking for a (post)doctoral researcher to join our team. The position is part-time (0.5 FTE) for 12 months.

The DiCE consortium represents all aspects of the healthcare environment (scientific, business, citizens and geography) including pharma, Medtech, academia, tech startups, recycling, behavioral science and community research partners. Our ambition is to convert the current linear business model for smart devices into an end-to-end circular model. This will require progressive changes to current practices in the healthcare ecosystem, including policy recommendations. Our hope is that showing circularity can be realized in healthcare, there will be spillover effect into other sectors and our positive impact in the world will further increase. You will work on the validation and adaptation of existing circular business models for use in healthcare. You will develop new value-based pricing models to support circular and economically attractive business models for digital health solutions in healthcare.

Your key responsibilities

  • You will join the Janssen team, finding ways to exploit DiCE with business models and policies. Your focus will be on the value estimation for all benefits generated by the program deliverables.
  • Validate business models at scale and develop pricing models for equitably distribution of the value derived from circular recovery processes. Ensure the economic viability of the models for the ecosystem partners in healthcare.
  • Pressure test the impact of proposed models using the outputs from other DiCE work-packages, including data such as product volumes and recovery rates.
  • Partner with consortium members and relevant others, including advisory board members to build value-based business models as a pre-requisite for recommendations on pricing models (WP6.2.3)

We would love to hear from YOU, if you have
