At IBM’s largest European R&D site in Ehningen, Germany, innovation is a team effort. With 1,300 employees and around 200 engineers in our hardware development team, we’re shaping the future of computing—together.

We design the core components behind IBM POWER, IBM Z, and Quantum systems—technologies that power cloud computing, AI, big data, and more. What sets us apart is how we work: across borders, disciplines, and ideas. You’ll collaborate daily with colleagues in the U.S., Israel, and India, using Agile and Design Thinking to drive creativity and continuous learning.

If you're passionate about technology and thrive in a collaborative, forward-thinking environment, we’d love to meet you.

We’re hiring development engineers (m/f/x) to join our System and Board Design team starting January 1, 2026. As part of the Electronic Packaging group, you’ll help design high-performance mainboards and PCB cards for IBM’s flagship platforms.

Key Areas of Work

  • Logic & Physical Design: Develop and layout complex digital and analog circuits.
  • Signal Integrity: Modeling and simulation of high-frequency signals across boards and systems. Definition of design rules and materials.
  • Power Integrity: Ensure stable power distribution and switching stability on complex boards
  • Module Design: Create single and multi-chip modules for IBM processors.
  • Automation: Improve workflows, tools, and measurement methods.
  • Failure Analysis: Support hardware bring-up, prototype validation, and issue resolution.

Your Profile

We’re looking for candidates with a strong technical foundation and a collaborative mindset. Ideally, you have:

  • A Master’s or PhD in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or similar
  • Knowledge of signal and power integrity, and circuit design (digital & analog)
  • Familiarity with PCB technologies and materials
  • Programming skills (preferably Python)
  • Experience with PCB tools (e.g., Cadence, Synopsys, Mentor Graphics, Altium, Eagle)
  • Strong self-motivation and team spirit
  • Excellent English communication skills (German is a plus)

Your Team & Work Environment
